Ion Migration

It is a phenomenon in which the metal on the "anode" side is ionized under high temperature and high humidity, and the metal on the "cathode" side is eroded when a voltage is applied on the substrate. As a material, it is particularly likely to occur with silver. Therefore, for silver-plated connectors, it is important to ensure the pitch, and if a narrower pitch is required, it is important to verify by conducting environmental tests in advance. Cases have also been reported in which red phosphorous-based materials are included in the surrounding area and are phosphorylated, accelerating migration. Connectors with normal silver-plated terminals are designed with these circumstances fully taken into account.
