On August 8, 2025, IRISO Electronics Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, CEO: Hitoshi Suzuki), a connector manufacturer, announced the "Unit-able" concept, a next-generation interface solution for powertrains that is designed to combine vibration resistance and waterproofing.
As vehicle functionality has become more advanced in recent years, automakers are increasingly required to install in-vehicle devices with a variety of functions and to electronically manage and control a variety of systems, even in harsh environments. However, when it comes to conventional in-vehicle devices, interface design changes were frequently required even for devices with the same functionality to accommodate wire harness shapes that vary among end users. To address this issue, IRISO has developed the "Unit-able" concept of standardizing (sharing) board sockets in the device and customizing only contact interface, so that an innovative approach can be taken to flexibly and efficiently meet a wide range of customer needs.
In addition, IRISO’s proprietary vibration-resistant "Z-Move" technology enables to effectively absorb the effects of vibrations caused by resonance.
Furthermore, with waterproofing solutions available by using sealing packing, the product is designed to be suitable for powertrain system around the engine, where it is necessary to prevent rainwater, water leaking from car wash, muddy water, etc. from entering the system.
Preparations for mass production of this product are underway, with the aim of commencing it in the second half of 2025.
IRISO aims to continue to drive technological advancements in the automotive industry by addressing industry challenges through its diverse product lines, including the floating connector.
Interface Switching Function
The interface connector is separated into board sockets in the device and the contact interface, offering custom connections for each customer.
This technology realizes high-mix low-volume automation, not only streamlining the product-design-to-production process but also helping reduce total costs.
Environmental Features
Waterproofing can be done simply by mounting (mating) the IF on in-vehicle devices. It can be used in harsh high-temperature environments such as the inside of the automotive engine rotating device.
Z-Move Structure
IRISO’s Z-Move technology for vibration control can be used in harsh environments.
The floating structure is designed to absorb misalignment vibrations of the board, lowering mechanical stress on solder joints and helping reduce the risk of damage due to misalignment.
Two-Point Contact Function
The product has two contact points (two points on the same line), which improves contact reliability and helps increase redundancy in device design.
